MARIA MARTINEZ

Learning through time and experiences that the most important thing is me and not in a way of narcissism but to know that if I am good and I feel confident in every step on my way I can get to places and inspire other people, which is the most beautiful thing. Just receiving messages on how I gave someone that strength or the confidence to create makes me so happy. Most of all, that's why I do and share my art so others can feel inspired to do what they are scared of creating.

I actually wasn't [always comfortable in my skin]. All this confidence is almost kinda new to me, really. My photo gallery has been part of my transition, my blooming process of this new self love and confidence that I have now. I was really focused before on what people might think if I showed more skin in my pictures, but one day I just decided not to care anymore and that was the best thing I could have ever done since I was doing something I really loved.

"Nudity doesn't have to be sexual, and it's not. When it is, who cares? It could be fucking beautiful." -- Hattie Watson

Amen sister! That's actually my response everytime someone judges me or asks me about my art. Society is so messed up. Like, why be scared of a nipple if we all have a pair? Why be ashamed of our naked bodies if we were born that way? Why make it seems that this is just wrong? This really gets me everytime, trying to explain to people that a naked body doesn't mean sex and like Hattie mentioned, it could be so beautiful because there are millions of shapes, colours, and sizes and they are all beautiful and we should embrace it more!

One of the advantages of me taking my own pictures is that I can be as comfortable as I want, create at my own time and when I feel it. Whenever I tried to plan ideas for a picture I just don't feel the same vibe. The disadvantages sometimes can be quality; all my pictures are taken with my phone so sometimes I wish the pictures had this different quality that a professional camera can give and also angles... You can't always get the perfect angle by placing your phone over boxes or on a table, but other than that I think I have managed over time with how or where to place my phone for a better result.

[Preferred looks are] definitely tights and white panties.

One of the most challenging aspects of my work but one that I am truly grateful for is: To put my art in public. I was afraid of what people would say about me showing "too much" and they did. People I thought were my friends were talking behind my back on how I dared putting those kind of images [online] and calling me names for that but at the same time I was getting love from all around the world, credit for my art, even the creative director of ELLE MAGAZINE, Ruba, had shared my art in her Instagram! So when you get recognized for your work, your confidence levels increase to the top and that's what keep me creating and vibrating higher.

Yes, [I am] definitely [optimistic]. My mind is always in a constant creative mood. This year my goal is to create not only images but experiences to the viewer, something that can make you connect just by being true to myself and letting all that passion be transmitted.

The end of civilization will be caused by: Ego.
