HUNTERS HIT THE GROUND RUNNING... AND FLAILING... AND KICKING...
Brooklyn New York wild kids HUNTERS have burst onto the scene with their record <<Hands on Fire>>. The first thing you notice about the band is just how crazy their shows tend to be: rolling, crawling, kicking, and generally causing a fuss wherever they go. Then, you tune in and hear exactly what they are playing aaaaand before you know it, you're hooked. Fear not. Do not resist. Just repeat: Hunters are rad... Hunters are rad... Hunters are rad...
MATT: Hi Hunters. You've grown into a four piece, but in the beginning there was just Derek and Isabel. How did you two meet and start playing music together? DEREK: Ha yeah we get that a lot. Hunters has always been a four piece me, Isabel, John and Odell. The central part of the band in terms of songwriting has always been Isabel and I. ISABEL: We both had jobs at the chinatown arcade. He and I were the only people who spoke english so… DEREK: When it would get crowded on weekends we would sneak out and eat at the chinese vegetarian restaurant down the street. ISABEL: One day Derek gave me some songs he was working on that I would play on my headphones at work to drown out the bad techno music. Thats how we started talking about playing music together

MATT: You've mentioned in the past that your favorite part of being in a band is playing shows. What can unsuspecting souls expect from a Hunters show? ISABEL: The best part of playing a show is not knowing whats gonna happen. DEREK: It has a lot to do with the venue, the people, and how much space we have on the stage or floor.

MATT: Your live show seems like such a cathartic experience; limbs flying, both of you ending up on the floor time and again. I can imagine things getting out of hand sometimes. Any injuries to speak of? ISABEL: Many! Derek got hit on the eye by a bottle of champagne at one of our shows and his eye got huge and started bleeding, it was pretty funny. DEREK: Yeah and last summer at Death By Audio you hit your head on the floor so hard that you got a concussion, and a chipped tooth!
DEREK: Our bass player Johns friend's Ricky and Julien said we can stay with them if we buy them smokes, so that's good news. ISABEL: We put out a split 7" on Swill Children with a band from Montreal called Dead Wife and we've played with this band Nu Sensae from Vancouver who are awesome.

MATT: The end of civilization will be caused by: ISABEL: Killer Klowns from Outer Space… DEREK: Odell loves clowns. ISABEL: haha Bang!
