KEEPING IT CHILL WITH HIGH HIGHS Originally posted December, 2011. Interview with Jack Milas.
THE WORLD MAY BE ENDING, BUT...
It's 2012 and the apocalpyse may be forthcoming, but if the end is indeed nigh we can all blissfully stroll into the end of days listening to the super chill music of Sydney, Australia --now the proud sons of Brooklyn, New York--'s High Highs. And hey, if we're not all swimming in lava by the end of the year you should certainly keep a lookout for the full length High Highs record currently in the works!
Two parts Australian, one part American. Jack & Oli you two were living in Australia, then you both up and move to Brooklyn, New York and grab a hold of Zach and the rest is history. How did the move come about?
Oli and I have day jobs at a studio over here. There's also one in Sydney and we were lucky enough to be offered a job over in the NY studio.
What are your thoughts on New York City... do you find it much different then Sydney? Strangest thing you've witnessed in NYC?
It's very different to Sydney. Musically it's an amazing place to be. We both miss a lot of things about Australia but for making music we're very happy to be here. The strangest thing I have personally witnessed in New York was probably seeing the Trippple Nippples live recently. The strangest but one of the coolest.
Pardon the blasphemy but what in God's name is Church Wave? You guys don't take the ol genre categorizing too seriously do you? Haha. No we don't at all. That was something fun we came up with but we don't insist on using it at all. We just thought our music would sound good in churches generally.
In a past interview one of you guys said that there's nothing worse than getting hit over the head by sound when you're just trying to vibe out. It got me wondering what you guys do to just chill out and take it all in? High Highs top vibe out activities:
I once went to an Onsen town in Japan - that was incredible. Sauna's and steam rooms are generally high on our list. The Russian baths in the east village is a pretty cool experience, but its not exactly right for "chilling out."
