WHITE LUNG: BRUISES, RECORDS & MINIVANS I took the time to check in with Vancouver punkers White Lung amidst their North American tour! They're a little over a month into it so far and ripping it up everywhere they go. Sadly, the tour won't see them coming around our part of the woods, but hopefully they'll find themselves on the far east coast before too long. I have to ask about your mode of transportation on this tour. I read in the past that you hated driving your van because it kept breaking down and was just generally more trouble than it was worth. There was also an incident or two with taxi's in the past, right? Does the White Lung tour van exist, is it still a pain in the ass and is it being used for this tour with Nu Sensae? Mish Way: We have our own van but it's a mini van, small and even though the engine is still good, the outside is falling apart. We borrowed a van from our friend for this tour. X X X X I noticed you (Mish) showing off a pretty gnarly bruise a few months ago via the bands tumblr. Was that something that happened at a gig? Any mishaps to tell from the road so far? Mish Way: In Florida my friend Arlington who played in the best punk band in the South, St. Dad, decided to pick me up and plow me into the bass amp. My elbow is now black, my thigh is blue, speckled with purple and brown. He really destroyed me. This happens a lot. In North Carolina I got mangled too, but it's good because we're just having fun. Plus, I bruise very easily. Daniel (Nu Sensae) thinks I might have slight hemophilia. Anyways, that original steak bruise on our website was not show related, surprisingly. I got drunk at my work party and then fell down the stairs of a boy I was trying to impress.
X X X X I read in an interview that former member Natasha had to kill a man with her bare arms because he broke her guitar in half and threw it at an innocent girl at a show. I was wondering if you have had to kill any macho meatheads with your bare hands for exhibiting similar behaviour so far on tour, or has the reception been pretty positive so far? Mish Way: No killing so far. Reception has been pretty great. X X X X White Lung loves the wax. 7"s, comp 7"s, split 7"s and an LP on the great Deranged records to boot. Where does your love of vinyl records come from and what was the first record you ever bought yourself? Mish Way: I don't know which was the first piece of vinyl I ever bought. Probably a Hole record or Van Morrison. Actually, I think it was Television. I can't remember because I started collecting vinyl in the same year and I spent a lot of money, very rapidly, on records. I had to cut myself off from eBay.
X X X X Finally, White Lung, thanks again for the interview. BLOODSTAINS ACROSS BRITISH COLUMBIA. I have to say I think this is one of the raddest and baddest comps to come out in recent memory. One of your contemporaries on the record, AHNA made it to my neck of the words, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island last spring. They placed our infamous punk house The House of Rock. Any chance White Lung will make their way to the Canadian east coast sometime soon?.... he asks to a band in the middle of a two and a half month tour.... Mish Way: We would love to go out to the deep East of Canada but it's so far and so hard. We'll be in Toronto, Montreal, etc in early July. We always accept donations, plane tickets, fruit baskets, free rides, etc. We'll go anywhere if someone will help us along.
BE SURE TO KEEP UP ON WHITE LUNG''S ADVENTURES ON THE ROAD X X X X
