DOMINIQUE HUYGHE

I use a lot of my past experiences to create the emotions in my art. I love the idea that, as a model, you are an illusionist. I can be different while celebrating my flaws. When my confidence decreases, I find inspiration in nature. I find when I step outside, and spend time in the elements, it reminds me that I am a lot more than this body. I build confidence from practicing spirituality and allowing my inner spirit to shine through, rather than worrying so much about the material world.

At one point in time, I was not always comfortable in my own skin. I was the ugly duckling growing up in elementary school. I had crooked teeth and was the princess of being uncomfortable. I was always the smallest in all my classes and as my body started to develop, I had to face the fact that I would always be petite. Our society creates so many limitations if you allow yourself to fall into it. When I started to explore spirituality and my divine self, I discovered that I am beautiful. It allowed me to turn my flaws into art. All the sudden, my flaws were beautiful and they helped shape my character.

I have modelled as a Greek royal princess. It was by far one of the coolest outfits for creativity. It had gold body armour and a red satin skirt attached by gold chains to the armour. I felt like a warrior. The designer was Royal Dissensions. Some of my favourite and most memorable outfits always seem to be made out of silk. I love the feeling of the fabric, and nothing makes me feel more sexy.

Social media is a necessary evil. That is, if you allow it to be. As an artist, it is a very useful tool to be able to reach larger audiences. You want to be able to share your work and inspire other people. When you get too entangled in social media, all of a sudden your work becomes "not good enough." You find yourself trying to live up to this impossible standard. I'm guilty of getting caught into the social media vortex. I've learned that the best thing to do for myself is to unplug, put my phone down and go outside, or spend time with people I care about. It reminds you that life is meant to be spent doing real things that make you happy.

One of the most challenging aspects of my work but one that I am truly grateful for is: The expectation to be healthy. It has allowed me to blossom into a happier person. It was exhausting trying to figure out at first, and took lots of lifestyle changes. Taking care of myself turned into my number one priority.

As Wayne Dyer once said, " Go for it now. The future is promised to no one."

The end of civilization will be caused by: Zombies, obviously.
