DIONNE TIPTON

I'm not always a confident person yet you wouldn't know that if you met me. My confident side comes out the most when I'm in front of that camera. I'd say it's like my getaway place, but that isn't really where my confidence came from. It helped, but wasn't the cause. To me, confidence isn't to do with your body or the clothes you wear or if your makeup is on "fleek." It's to do with your mind. In this industry, there will be someone critiquing you, always. You've gotta have a strong mentality to be able to take it.

Of course, I have off days. I'm not always feeling like my confident self. I just tell myself to "fake it 'til you make it."

I started off with no confidence in myself whatsoever, even before modeling. I was the shy quiet girl that no one really bothered to notice. In school, I was bullied and also went through other things in my school years. This led me to not have that strong mentality to feel like I was worthless, but one day I got asked to shoot... best believe it was the most uneasy feeling and the pictures will never be seen (laughing). Even though it was uneasy, there was something about it that intrigued me. It made me want to learn about it. Eventually, after a few shoots I gained my confidence to the point when I was nineteen I decided to do my first nude shoot with the amazing photographer Jack Russell. This was the point I knew I had confidence in myself.

Most the clothes in my shoots have been my own (laughing). One shoot I did with George Davies, this guy is my G. I was wearing Dark Circle clothing which is an amazing clothing brand. My second shoot, I'd say, is when I shot with my girl Ebun. We did a shoot with some Asos clothing. The way the stylist put these outfits together was amazing - good enough that Asos put one of the pictures on their Instagram.

What I'm most comfortable shooting in is fashion and street shoots. I love how with each different outfit, I get to play a different mood.

I always make sure I get a good night's sleep before hand. Other than that, I don't really do much in terms to prepare. I do have to make sure I have everything planned out though. My anxiety goes a bit high if I don't have times I need to be in a certain place. I like to know what I'm doing when it comes to a shoot.

No one ever saw me as the expressive girl, so to a lot of people who I was around or had been around me in the past were shocked. As for the nudity, obviously my mum wasn't too happy about it, but she knows I'm someone that if I've got my mind set on something I'm going to do no matter how many times someone tells me no. That doesn't mean I do stupid things. I make sure it's within reason, but to show my body is my choice and nobody else's.

One of the most challenging aspects of my work, but one that I'm grateful for is: Having to meet new people. So far, everyone who I have worked with has been a pleasure to work with but because of my anxiety, at first whenever I had to meet someone to work inside I'd be panicking. They wouldn't know as I could hide it. I had to keep telling myself to just do it. "This anxiety today is worth it for my success tomorrow."  I always tell myself everything I'm getting through today is to make it a better tomorrow.

I am most definitely [optimistic] no matter what I'm going to do, whether it be modeling full time or like now I'm part time and I work somewhere else. I'm going to make sure I'm enjoying what I do. I'm going to live for myself, no one else for the time being until I have a child in the very distant, distant future.

Ending on a positive note, the end of civilzation will be caused by: Oh god, very positive (laughing). I honestly don't think we'll ever had one. I mean, there are people that are civilized of course but there is also a lot of divide; always has been and always will be no matter what.
